Tips For Your Couples Session

You’ve booked your couples session! I know this can be scary for some. I totally get it! I don’t love being the subject either. But we’re doing this whether you like it or not, we want to make sure we have the best couples session, and the images reflect the two of you. So, lets go through a few tips to help you through it.

DON'T HOLD BACK
I want you to be you! This may seem obvious, but sometimes it’s tough to really commit to it. You get to set the tone and mood of the shoot, keep in mind its not what you think a session should look like. Are you both silly? Or are you introverted? I want to capture all those little moments you might otherwise consider the “outtakes”. Don’t act like you think you should, we want to capture you as you are. The truest emotion is in the outtakes!

DRESS LIKE YOURSELF
One of the most asked questions is “what do I wear?” My answer is always to dress comfortably, don’t feel like you need to “dress up”  we tend to feel most comfortable being ourselves when the dressed comfortably. If you are feeling fancy, go for it! If you want to be relaxed in jeans - that works too!

PICK AN ENVIRONMENT THAT REFLECTS YOU
Remember these photos are about you as a couple, the backdrop is just that - background. So pick places that make you feel at ease. The setting, location, and weather will affect your mood, and the mood of the photos. We want to make sure you’re surrounded by what you love, whether that be your own home, your favourite bar or cafe, a park, a mountain, or just exploring a location you’ve seen me shoot at and it really spoke to you.

EMBRACE THE SPONTANEOUS ELEMENTS
We want you to embrace the natural elements, the wind, the sun, cloudy skies, bright sun, muddy trails, curious tourists, or your very happy dog!  We’ll keep shooting through it all and have fun! If we have to primp too much between shots, the vibe might be lost so let's keep it natural and honest and go for it!

LEAVE THE EXTRA STUFF AT HOME
Try to leave extra bags, purses, and props at home. It's your love I want to capture, the less you need to think about, the less you are distracted you are.

Every couple is very different, and I want to capture those quirks that make you who you are as a couple. Please tell me what is most meaningful to you, feel free to share your anxieties so we can work around them and make sure you are comfortable. If you keep these tips in mind, we’ll make something great!
